OK, Here we go..... I think it only fair to start with this photo as this trip to Tokyo, and the inspiration of these two guys with me in the photo, really kicked off my interest in exploring food, photographing said eats, and sharing/explaining my impressions of my experiences. So, to you David Chang and Anthony Bourdain, Cheers, and thanks. As I begin I think it only fair to explain a bit of what my purpose with this blog is. As you know, I do not participate in Facebook, and I wont go into why here, but I NEEDED a vehicle to communicate and connect with those in my life, both near and far. As the name implies, this will primarily be a blog about pizza. However, as this is mine, I will feel free to do and say as I damn well please, as it pleases me. So I hope to not offend or tiptoe too far over the line of appropriateness, but if I do, that's just too fucken bad. Enjoy. Pizza, food, life experiences, thoughts, feelings, rants, and more food. This is what you will find here. Please feel free to share and pass along to anyone you think might have an interest, as I hope you will as well. Sincerely yours, DVA

Sushi, Ginza, Sake, Let's Party

The month is March, the City is Ginza, the meal is sushi, the night was amazing

We were simply given an address and a time.  Taxi, walking, u turns, re-tracing our steps, entering and exiting lobby and lobby trying to find the right building.  Finally we reached our destination.

Sushi Uoyu

This dashing character is a British Secret Service, or Scottish, I get the two confused all the time.....

Please take your shoes off before you eat

And now let's just dive right in.

This is an appetizer and it's small raw squid, some seaweed, and a squirt of jizz

Accompanying dishes await the next course

Sashimi Plate

Amaebi (Sweet Shrimp)

Super raw, super yummy

Giant clam

Super terrible

Chewy, tough, rough, blech

Just in time

The rest of the plate kicked ass

Various types of fish

And this guy too.  Doesn't get fresher than that

They sashimi'd his body and made a sauce from his liver, the pink stuff to the left.  Ginger and fish eggs and other stuff are offered as condiments.

Fish Flesh

Yesssssssssssssssssssss, just in time

Karaage

Normally this is chicken but can also be fish, like this is.  The pepper was also really tasty.

Arigato gozaimasu Shin-chan

Grilled crab and some fish bones with a sparse amount of meat

Steamed clam course, light and refreshing

SUSHI!

This is an individual portion

I honestly forget what the heck this was.  I think I liked it but who really knows at this point?.....

One would think that desert being served would signal the end to the meal.....

One would be wrong

JWL has arrived, and he's ready to party

And he wants more sake

And more

And more.

This from the guy that has to get on a flight in 2 hours, the rest of us are leaving in the morning.

Total utter destruction, but what a way to go.

I think the Secret Agent Man and I enjoyed a glass of Scotch at the bar atop our hotel after, but I cannot confirm that positively.

As Confucius always said

"Sake party in Ginza?  Hell yeah!"

Unagi (Eel), Yoga (it's the name of a city), Japan (it's an amazing country)

Just a short half block or so from the Solar (CAT) office in Yoga Japan (outskirts of Tokyo) sits a fantastic little restaurant that serves only Unagi.  It used to be, and still might be, a mom-and-pop shop, with sons helping out, but this time there were 3 dudes pumping out the meals.

This is lunch

We start with tea

And we clean up, of course.  It's a standard

Salad.  Yes it was as bland as it looks

Bom bom bom BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, one photo and I almost forgot that one!
I was so hungry that I just couldn't wait.  This one was a double, meaning that there is a layer of rice then eel then a second layer of rice topped with more eel.

Soup, obviously, or maybe not obviously..... sorry  :-)

 SOUP!

Super light and yummy.  Very veg tasting.  Perfect for washing down this heavy-ish meal.

Eat more Unagi!

Go to yoga!
DO more yoga!

Live a great life

Curling, Mexico, Out-Houses, The Finer Things in LIfe

Yes, this is gonna be awesome.

Curling, the number 2 sport in Canada, and we love it too.  Any curl any time.

In celebration of the recent winter Olympics we thought we'd do our part and support the US Women's Olympic Curling Team.
And no better place than a dirty bar in Mexico, about an hour south of San Diego.

The bar ended up being two bars and neither was all that dirty.

We donned our hats (curling hat, yes, thank you interweb, you can find ANYTHING there) and we rolled on in.
Most of the people in the bar, all 5 of them to be exact, did a double take upon our entrance.

We ordered a beer, we order the TV changed to the match, we ordered enthusiastic support of our team, which in the end didn't matter all that much, Sweden or whoever, kicked our asses.

Yes, it's truly as exciting as it looks!

In the final frame it all came down to a photo finish, curling style

Oh my god, who is closest?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

To our amazement they actually have a piece of equipment to measure which stone is the closest.  Wowzer

This lovely Swedish gem was the winng tosser, thrower, slider?

Not sure the correct term but she killed it (crushed it more like it....)

Drowning our sorrows in a Negra Modelo

Outhouse break?

Or maybe this one?

Has a Middle Eastern look to it

This should only be used as a last resort...

Extra shelter in front so that in the rain you can hangout out front and enjoy your smoke before heading back to the trailer

Hockey and a margarita, at 9 am, on a Sunday.

Viva la Me-hi-co!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know, I'm going off kinda random here, but these are the sights of Mexico, my Mexico, where I go to take a break.  And where you can enjoy some of the best pizza, anywhere.  For more info on this place, Ollie's, see previous posts, there are several.

A bagel and lox sort of taste to this one.  Not my favorite but it was something different and tasty

Back to the trailer, and I'm happy to kick your ass in foosball any time you want, just lemmie know!

Or dominoes.... as long as my lucky monkey candlestick is near by ;-/

Curling, soccer, mexico, pizza, games, fun, friends, life, sun, drinking, being idiots,
laughing our asses off, being gnarly.

Let's go to Mexico
