As I find myself staring out the window of my hotel room I feel no need to leave the boundaries of this space. As if framed upon the wall the cityscape and skyline wash gently over me, hypnotizing me, locking my body and gaze for hours on end. I feel no pull, no urge to do anything or go anywhere. Peace is on my mind and is all I see to the horizon and beyond.
What day is it? I don't know.
What is my plan to come? I don't know.
What is the theme of this post? I don't know.
These are the random sights that have come into my view over the past week. Some are congruent with others, and then some not. Together they are my reality. Apart they are gibberish.
Enjoy.
A glance to the left and I see that someone at the JBS building is important enough for a heli-pad.
A Dole banana vending machine in the subway station? OK.
The following were directional signs for the restrooms at a very nice restaurant.
Hmm, kinda weird to say the least.
I am at a total loss to understand this one. Help anyone??
Be excited is full!! Let's play.
WTF does that mean?!?!?
Squid and octopus hanging to dry outside a restaurant. Just on the street. Hanging.
Inside of a different restaurant, dinner was served.
I think this was mushrooms and some sort of sea snail sliced up? Texture was OK, not too chewy, the sauce was a bit tangy but not off putting at all.
Egg with cheese inside. Yummy. Like a Japanese omelet.
Bean salad. A first in japan for me. Different and good. A nice light vinaigrette.
A deep fried cake of fish and green onions.
Accompanied by hot ponzu, poured at the table.
you break off a chunk, dip and eat. Deep fried, can't go wrong.
Uhmmm, hello?!?!?
Egg with egg. Chicken and Fish. Interesting and quite delicious.
Soy bean paste.
It tasted like liquified beef jerky, but it was vegetarian. A super strong flavor and the viscosity of peanut butter. One can only handle a nibble at a time. I liked this but the portion has to be small, and with a beer chaser.
Ready for sake?!?! In a box? OK, let's go!
Surface tension demonstration.
Bacon wrapped asparagus yakitori.
Smoked duck croquets.
Fried and yummy. Not very ducky flavored, but good and crispy.
MORE!!!
Lightly grilled fish egg sacks (roe). The texture was a little too soft for my liking, but the flavor was good. Slightly briny and fishy but the char worked well with it.
And then, why not?
Beef and onion yakitori. Can't be bad.
A few days later, this is my meal, a solo performance after a long day of meetings, shinkansen rides, with a reversal of the same ahead tomorrow.
Ma-Po Tofu
Spicy Szechuan tofu and minced pork. One of my favorite all time meals.
Hot and sour soup. Not needed tonight but I wanted to top off the tank.
And done!
I need a shower and a bed, both of which will take place within minutes.
Thank you Japan for another great visit.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and in my heart till next we meet.
