Cantina Mayahuel, San Diego, Seafood Yucatan Stew

This is seriously the best thing I've eaten in SD in a while.

Cantina Mayahuel is a  killer place that serves great food in a cool atmosphere along with tasty margaritas.

We happened along here once upon a time, pub-crawling it from South Park to Adams.  It was a shame that we had eaten along the way because when once I spied the bowl of loveliness the patron astride me was enjoying it was all I could think about until our return a fortnight later.

The special that Saturday night, and apparently it's every Saturday night, is the Seafood Yucatan Stew.  A bowl teaming with fresh seafood in a delicious fish broth over a bed of black beans and rice.  Yummmmm-erific!

Let's start with a drink first shall we?

They have a huge list of mezcals and tequilas.  For those of you asking yourselves "what the difference between mezcal and tequila"?  Let me enlighten you....

Mezcal is a distilled spirit made from the agave plant.  Tequila is a type of mezcal made ONLY from the blue agave.  Tequila is mezcal.  Mezcal can be other than tequila though.

The guac here is average.  Not great but OK.  Pre-made and spooned out as you order, same with the salsa.  Good, worth the price, just don't go getting too excited about it..

LET'S DO IT!!!

BAM!

A flavor explosion.  Soooo much going on in here

On the upper deck is fish, squid, shrimp, scallops, tomatoes, onion, etc...

Diving deep brings up the black beans y rice.

This is truly a great dish.  Even for $15 it terrif.  Well worth the price.

Get out there and eat some new stuff kids!  There's great-new-exciting places to try, new food to discover, endless restaurants everywhere you turn.

Eat, laugh, drink, be merry
