OK, Here we go..... I think it only fair to start with this photo as this trip to Tokyo, and the inspiration of these two guys with me in the photo, really kicked off my interest in exploring food, photographing said eats, and sharing/explaining my impressions of my experiences. So, to you David Chang and Anthony Bourdain, Cheers, and thanks. As I begin I think it only fair to explain a bit of what my purpose with this blog is. As you know, I do not participate in Facebook, and I wont go into why here, but I NEEDED a vehicle to communicate and connect with those in my life, both near and far. As the name implies, this will primarily be a blog about pizza. However, as this is mine, I will feel free to do and say as I damn well please, as it pleases me. So I hope to not offend or tiptoe too far over the line of appropriateness, but if I do, that's just too fucken bad. Enjoy. Pizza, food, life experiences, thoughts, feelings, rants, and more food. This is what you will find here. Please feel free to share and pass along to anyone you think might have an interest, as I hope you will as well. Sincerely yours, DVA

Frank Pepe Pizzeria - Wooster Street - New Haven Connecticut - USA

I love New Haven style pizza.  Well, I love the version that we have in San Diego (Urbn in North Park) so naturally when we pass through New Haven Connecticut every year on our way from NYC to The Cape I want to stop and enjoy it in the homeland.  Unfortunately, there hasn't been any enjoyment on our stops so far, see link below....

Next up, Frank Pepe.

There are a number of locations in and around CT, but we're going to the original on Wooster street.

As you will find at any popular spot, the line out the door is long, and it's Friday midday, and this drive has already taken 2 hours longer than expected, so we're not sitting and eating, were buying and going, to the car, and eating out of the trunk....

But first, the place.

AMAZING kitchen and oven.  Wowzer.  It holds like 30 pizzas at a time.  Long peels are used to move the pies in and out, a team of cooks pres before and after.

Killer, excited, please don't suck!!

Possibly Frank and/or Pepe?   Mama Pepe?

Who the F knows

The pie, solo pepperoni

At the initial glance, it looks a mess.

With the initial inhale, it smells heavenly

Let's let the kid try it first.  If it's bad we'll can go get a grinder...

Seems to like it...

Looks pretty good....

Ohhhhhh yeah!  After it sat for a bit the center came together so that you could actually pick up a slice and eat it.

I like how the top goes all the way to the edge of the crust in some places, and others not.  Very rustic and it creates different flavors and textures as the cheese burns a bit in some spots and others the crust is unblemished by sauce or cheese.  A bread bite, a cheese saucy peppy bite, all of it super yummy.  The pepperoni is also on point.  Small and thick, not evenly spaced, so you might get a big stack in one bite and nothing in the next.  I like the inconsistency of it all.

If the goal is to have every bite the same then head to Little Caesars or call Dominoes.

If you want a masterpiece made by an expert, head to Frank Pepe Pizzeria, they are the shit.
