OK, Here we go..... I think it only fair to start with this photo as this trip to Tokyo, and the inspiration of these two guys with me in the photo, really kicked off my interest in exploring food, photographing said eats, and sharing/explaining my impressions of my experiences. So, to you David Chang and Anthony Bourdain, Cheers, and thanks. As I begin I think it only fair to explain a bit of what my purpose with this blog is. As you know, I do not participate in Facebook, and I wont go into why here, but I NEEDED a vehicle to communicate and connect with those in my life, both near and far. As the name implies, this will primarily be a blog about pizza. However, as this is mine, I will feel free to do and say as I damn well please, as it pleases me. So I hope to not offend or tiptoe too far over the line of appropriateness, but if I do, that's just too fucken bad. Enjoy. Pizza, food, life experiences, thoughts, feelings, rants, and more food. This is what you will find here. Please feel free to share and pass along to anyone you think might have an interest, as I hope you will as well. Sincerely yours, DVA

Gaglione Brothers, Philly Cheese Steaks, San Diego

OK OK OK, before any of you's guy's from Philly start getting all excited, or pissed, and wanna talk shit about how you know Philly and I don't know Philly and you know cheese steaks, and blah blah fucken blah, chill out, and sit down.

Yes I've been to Philly and Yes I've had a Cheese Steak there.  It was only one trip and I only went to one place, Steve's Steaks on Union street, so I'm not an expert, but I did eat three in one sitting, and fell in love.

Those of you that know me know that I consider myself a purist of sorts.  So for me, the only cheese steak is made with Whiz.  Now those of you that haven't tried this on a sandwich, a beautiful sandwich with thin slices of beef, tender and juicy, tucked crammed inside a soft beautiful bun/roll, then you don't know the whiz that I know.  This stuff doesn't come extruding out of an aerosol can.  This stuff comes from a galon tub, and apllied with a paint stick.  Thick and slathery.  MMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

The Steak with Whiz is the only one I've ever had, and I don't see that changing.

Before we take a look, a little bit about this place.

It's the best Cheese Steak I've had in San Diego.  No one else is even close, really.  I was introduced to them many years back when I worked for the Gulls, San Diego's professional hockey team.  Gaglione Bros would cater some of the games and would drop off TUBS of sandwiches.  My buddy ScoopGuy and I (known as Big D by some..) we would take 3, 4, 5, sometimes more of these and pack them away to eat throughout the game, and throughout the week.  They are that good.

How bout a peek?

Lets not ruin it with words

Cheesy, yummy, sofaking good.

Sorry for the limited amount of photos but at some point ya just gotta eat.

If you are in San Diego, or going to be, please check out their website for location information.  There are 2 locations, one near Midway and Sports Arena Blvd, and the other at Friars Road and Mission Gorge.

Truly the best in San Diego.

Skeet Skeet some whiz today!

DVA
