OK, Here we go..... I think it only fair to start with this photo as this trip to Tokyo, and the inspiration of these two guys with me in the photo, really kicked off my interest in exploring food, photographing said eats, and sharing/explaining my impressions of my experiences. So, to you David Chang and Anthony Bourdain, Cheers, and thanks. As I begin I think it only fair to explain a bit of what my purpose with this blog is. As you know, I do not participate in Facebook, and I wont go into why here, but I NEEDED a vehicle to communicate and connect with those in my life, both near and far. As the name implies, this will primarily be a blog about pizza. However, as this is mine, I will feel free to do and say as I damn well please, as it pleases me. So I hope to not offend or tiptoe too far over the line of appropriateness, but if I do, that's just too fucken bad. Enjoy. Pizza, food, life experiences, thoughts, feelings, rants, and more food. This is what you will find here. Please feel free to share and pass along to anyone you think might have an interest, as I hope you will as well. Sincerely yours, DVA

Jerk'd in Jamaica

Grant Jerk Pork &

That's what the sign says.  Nope, I didn't blow the shot and miss part of the name.

There is no website for this place, you won't find it on Yelp or TripAdvisor either.  A local roadside food joint, filled with people from the area and truckers/passers-by that are hungry.  The people were warm and friendly, a very inviting atmosphere.  A killer way to start this adventure.

We are half way between Kingston and Ocho Rios.  Our amazing driver Winston knows this spot and the locals that frequent it, so we're stopping, and we're stoked.

The meat is slowly cooked over a bed of charcoal covered with wooden poles, meat on that and then all is covered with corrugated metal siding sealing in the heat.

Looks gnarly I'll agree.

Over to the side are a few burners where the sides are prepared.  Fried plantains and "Festival" which is a fried bread, more on that later.

Let's start with a Red Stripe!

Our man Winston orders us up a tasting plate and we are ready to dig in!  It's all cut as it's ordered, either quarter, half, or whole chicken and pork is by the weight.

Keep in mind that we have been in-country about 1 hour at this point. Literally landed, walked to the Sandals counter, Winston ushers us to his van, and away we go.

Jerk Pork

Sausage

Jerk Chicken

I liked the chicken the best but I was eating the thigh and wing bones, HG thought it was dry but she was mainly eating from the breast.  HG's favorite was the pork, and we both thought the sausage was OK, worth the try but not wonderful.

Here is festival.  Fried bread almost in the shape of a braid or long think rope cut into sections.  Was ok flavor but mostly useful for soaking up the spicy sauce that is offered on the side.  And spicy it was.  Tore a hole the next morning, if you know what I'm saying.....

Bellys' are full, let's get to the resort!

Upon arrival we are greeted with glasses of champagne and lot's of smiles.

Winston departs with a hug and a smile and we are off to our room, ready for paradise.

Amazingly, or not, it looks just like the website.  Here is the view from our room.  Incredible.

I doubt there will be more posts from here as I really just can't get it together to carry my camera (phone) around with me nor do I care to snap any shots.  We are relaxing and truly enjoying ourselves here in this magical place.   Everyday new memories are being etched in our brains.

Peace, Unity, Respect

The Rabbit Hole & Skerry Pickles , Normal Heights, San Diego

Previously this place was something else.  And like most things that were once another, as we re-birth we hope for better, more evolved, a heightened level of whatever we had aspired to be before.  Hence my excitement for this day.  This Sunday.  A day to enjoy the game with friends food and frivolity.

Adam's Ave, just west of 34th street is where we find ourselves this day.

Normal Heights is right!  And we are in the heart of it.

I dig the theme of this place, even though I really don't understand it too much.  From what I gather it was named for the multitude of rabbits that roamed the site during renovations, but I'm not sure if I buy that completely.  It definitely has a vibe akin to a child's fable, or even Watership Down.  Take a peek around, I'll still be here when you get back...

TV's are everywhere!  Must be 30 of them.

And rabbits

And BEER!!!  Lot's of local breweries are well represented here.

The corn hole is up for grabs too... what?

This is probably my favorite painting/mural in the place.  It's on the wall that takes you to the restrooms.  Dig it, everything about it.

Another nicety to enjoy during your visit

Jack-a-lope

Standard these days

This is inside the restaurant and is the entrance to the kitchen.  A super cool touch, I think.

Now, let's get down to it!!!!
Bloody mary.  Made with pickled stuff from The Skerry Hot Pickle company!  So fricken good, and spicy!  Cucumbers (pickles) carrots, green beans, cauliflower, EVERYTHING, and so super yummy!!!

A San Diego company that would love for you to check them out.  They are served at quite a few local restaurants and pubs and you can even get them online.

Here's more about them, please check it out, and please find this stuff somewhere and EAT IT!!!!

It made this bloody mary taste super great, a nice start to the day :-)

The brunch menu.
We saw a ton of burritos going out of the kitchen, and they looked great.
I had my eye on the sandwich the whole time though, so get ready to check that out!

Soft delicious buttery bun, perfectly cooked smoky bacon, eggs and cheese.  The hashbrowns were also bouncing with flavor.  A little sriracha and ketchup and this plate was empty in about 3 seconds.

A terrific breakfast sandwich

And yes, we were there so long that we needed another meal.  Wings and fries!  And I love the fact that there's no sauce!  A delicious rub covers all parts.  They also taste deep fired which is A-OK by me.  They did offer up some mustard and ketchup and stuff, but they really don't need anything.

A solid batch of fries also.  Seasoned perfectly, a light touch of salt, hot and ready!

Basic great flavorful food, an awesome selection of beer, Skerry Pickles, a fun-friendly wait staff.  Whoever is behind the re-do of this place definitely knows what they are doing.

I can't wait to go down the rabbit hole again soon

Made From Scratch Biscuits, Carl's Jr.

Eeeeesh, yeah

Let's do this!

I know that there's been an inordinate amount of fast-food blogging going on with Your-Pie lately, and I'm not really able to put my finger on it, or in it, or whatever.  But I'm not, however, to the point where I'm viewing it as a problem, at least not just yet.

We're monitoring the situation though, so rest assured.

I am a fan of biscuits, as Courtnie can attest to.  Love me some Bojangles Cajun Chick-n-Biscuits SOOOO MUCH.  As of late Carl's Jr. has been killing the airwaves with their made-from-scratch biscuits commercials, and I've been REALLLLY wanting to try one.  And today is the day.  I'm a little under the weather and need some grease (thanks Donovan's!!!), but do I have any idea how much grease I've gotten myself into???   what?  Nevermind.   Here we go.

The order has been placed, I'm having coffee and someone else is having a soda.

Im "enjoying" the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit and the Loaded Omelet Biscuit,
some Hashbrown Nuggets are also along for the ride.

So far the only thing that I see "loaded" is the hashbrown wrapper loaded with grease.....

Here is what I expected

This is what showed up.

Not too entirely different.

And then this one I was REALLLLLLLLY looking forward to!

This is what I expected

This is what arrived

Uhmmm, there's something wrong here.  Someone stole all of my omelet guts!!!!

Really Carl?!?!?!  WTF?

Then I thought "maybe it would taste soooooo great that I could forget the appearance?"
Nah, I'm just kidding myself, and you too apparently.  This was pretty terrible.  The biscuits tasted like, and had the texture of pound cake.  Yes, the tops were buttery and, OK obviously the grandma in the kitchen baking these things fresh every morn'n brushes the tops with butter after they're done, but that's about it.  And did I say salty???  Holy b-jesus!!!!  Wowzer!  I need some water!

I feel bad, badder than I did before I did this to myself

Physically and emotionally
