OK, Here we go..... I think it only fair to start with this photo as this trip to Tokyo, and the inspiration of these two guys with me in the photo, really kicked off my interest in exploring food, photographing said eats, and sharing/explaining my impressions of my experiences. So, to you David Chang and Anthony Bourdain, Cheers, and thanks. As I begin I think it only fair to explain a bit of what my purpose with this blog is. As you know, I do not participate in Facebook, and I wont go into why here, but I NEEDED a vehicle to communicate and connect with those in my life, both near and far. As the name implies, this will primarily be a blog about pizza. However, as this is mine, I will feel free to do and say as I damn well please, as it pleases me. So I hope to not offend or tiptoe too far over the line of appropriateness, but if I do, that's just too fucken bad. Enjoy. Pizza, food, life experiences, thoughts, feelings, rants, and more food. This is what you will find here. Please feel free to share and pass along to anyone you think might have an interest, as I hope you will as well. Sincerely yours, DVA

Oyster House Brewing Company, Asheville NC, USA

http://oysterhousebeers.com/

We are still in Asheville NC.  Not literally, but blog-ularly.  It's our last day and we're out with the whole family at another brewery for lunch, our third (or more) in the last few days, nice.

Jumping way ahead, this day would end, well past midnight, after many hours of drinking, darts, fooseball, pool, ping pong, and general merriment.  A truly epic day with wonderful people enjoying all of the finer things that life has to offer.  But, I digress.

This place started as solely a brewery and has since diversified to offer their own fabulous assortment of eatings, and some really terrific beer.

Here's the tap list.

Yes, Oyster Stout.  Of which I enjoyed the Supermoon 10% Imperial Oyster Stout, which was mindbogglingly good.

Please ignor the drunk lady is photo-bombingthis photo.  The manager had to escort her out a few minute later because she just wouldn't leave us alone.  Poor sad woman....

This is a VERY active, and very small brewery.  It consists of one room with lots of equipment, putting out lots of beer.  The amazingly friendly staff gave me full and complete access, which I took full and complete advantage of.  Let's continue.

Personalized vats (or whatever they are called)

Kegs and such

Who's hungry?  We are for sure, and we enjoyed A LOT of different items!

The list starts with the raw offerings, and then at the very bottom is a dish that was particularly awesome.

Wait for it.

This is the second cool grill hood I've seen within a week.

Must be the latest thing, or maybe every place is just super cool these days.
Why should I be surprised?!?!

A closer look at the finished product.

Clam Chowder anyone?

Made to order, and I'm told it's amazing.

Ready to go

Grilled oysters?  Uhmm, yeah, let's roll with that!

Next step

Final product.

One of the most unique and well thought out oyster dishes I've ever had.  Bacon, lemon zest, shallots, grill flavor in/on the oysters themselves.

Yummm

A grilled romaine salad.  I didn't try it, mainly because it was gone by the time it came to me from around the table, but I'm told it was terrif.

Burger and a smile?

Well, burger at least....

Oyster Pan Roast Special
w/Baguette, Paprika Cream Sauce

The baguette was gone in 2.3 seconds.  A whole entire loaf wouldn't have been enough to ride all of this sauce down your gullet.  If the sea was made of cream and spice and yummy animals this is what it would taste like.  Not fishy, but you know there's seafood in it, creamy but yet not heavy.  I want a large bowl, large spoon, and a large loaf of bread, and a comfy chair, and another one of those Supermoons, and then a nap.  That's all I want.

Bar top with Oysters embedded

If you come to Asheville and you don't come here, then you are kinda dumb.

If you are lucky enough to live within a few blocks of this place (Gabe) then I'm kinda jealous of you.

If you've made it to the end of this post, and are still reading, then I thank you.

Free stickers anyone?

  1. Love this place..the beer(s) are excellent as is the food. But, the steamed oysters we were served on Saturday, Jan. 24th., should have been sent back. They were as small as a nickel or dime and not any thicker. But, the fish/chips, fried oysters, red beans/ rice, beer and oyster shooters were excellent...so we kept on pouring!!
